Maine Craft Distilling
Maine Craft Distilling

Did I mention in my last post that the weekend of 4/5-7 was the first truly nice weekend of spring? No? On Saturday, Mother Nature gave her minions an enormous gift of bright sunshine and temps; temps allowing the spouse and me to beachcomb to our hearts’ content. We hit beaches from OOB (Old Orchard Beach for those from “away”) to Cape Elizabeth. The shelling was fine, not stellar, but any time I can get away without a coat in April – that’s a good day!

Saturday found us imbibing at Maine Craft Distilling, ostensibly there to watch our latest fave band, Fremont Street String Band. However, we were there to check out their food and beverage offerings!

While the craft beer list is short, if not sweet, it’s unremarkable. One does NOT go to this establishment for the brews….instead, go for the Blueshine Liquor. Holy guacamole – this stuff is amazing. I guess it’s the Maine version of ‘shine, but flavored with Maine’s own wild blueberries and maple syrup. Yes, it has a kick, but a mellow kick. I had the Sunshine Blues, made with Blueshine, honey, ginger, & lemon. SO tasty. The spouse had Jack & Rose (Whipple Tree apple brandy, grenadine, & lemon). We forgot to take pictures of these beauties, so engrossed were we!

Can’t forget to mention the yummy ploughman’s platter. The pate was delish, as was the apricot preserve!

Can’t say enough about the venue for music – it’s small, but not claustrophobic. The band had a corner, which allowed them enough space without being too close to the audience. The sound check/warmup was just as good as listening to them work from their latest album, Dirigo. By the way, if the reader doesn’t know what Dirigo means, check out the definition here.
