Libations – a drink poured out as an offering to a deity

Librarian – Information master, one to be worshipped (The Urban Dictionary)

Soooo, I’m not really portraying myself as a deity, per se, but simply as one who enjoys sampling and categorizing beverages.  This blog is intended to share the delights of beverages, both alcoholic and not, I find on my travels.  I am NO tasting expert.  I have no formal training; however, I love to eat, drink, travel, and try (within reason) anything once.

The upcoming posts will mainly center on my homeground of New England.  That being said, I will create entries discussing items from my (and my spouse’s) travels.  We enjoy being out and about…..and finding amazing local food and drink wherever we go.  I get seriously tired of those who disdain local eateries, instead choosing to throw financial windfalls to restaurant chains.  More the fools they – more delights for us!  Travelers should continuously search out locally owned eateries/distilleries/breweries/wineries in order to encourage those small businesses to flourish.

My first post celebrates a lovely winery in Jackson, Michigan.  No, I haven’t visited personally, but my spouse creature (who travels constantly) brought the wine home.  The Sleeping Bear Winery (part of Grand River Brewery) has lovely wines!  My current favorite is The Bear Lake White – dry and citrus-y, with (in my opinion) grapefruit overtones.  While I enjoyed using the chardonnay as a “porch pounder”, the potable also tastes lovely as a companion to lighter cheeses, fish, and pasta.  The winery produces a lovely red wine (Cabernet Franc) titled, “It’s 5 O’clock Somewhere”.  The site gives a descriptor as, “A soft red wine showing the perfect balance between fruitiness and dryness. Big jammy berry flavor with subtle tannins”.  Jammy, indeed.  “Somewhere” pairs best with a strongly flavored red sauce or a big, cheesy burger – anything mild will be overwhelmed by the big flavor.

Hoping to visit soon!
